Blocking Comment Spam Attempts
Lately I banned a bunch of IPs because of comment spam attempts, which I described yesterday - Thoughts on Comment Spam.
There are just many of them, but most attempts use the same software as I can see in the logs. Spam software uses the following user-agent string:
Opera/9.0 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)
No it is not really Opera :). At least one of spammers used a bunch of public IPs/proxies to post, but I managed to spot original computer spammer IP:
72.232.217.138 = SPAMMER. Block him guys. Please note he is able to post from different IPs. If you see Opera has a decent stat share on your blog, check your logs, Opera sucks and people don't really use it.
One of major drawbacks of online statistics services like Google Analytics is that it will never tell you that kind of info.
