I think MSSQL 2005 Express Edition is unbeatable for work at home and it gives fully functional development experience if you install:

1. MSSQL 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services.
2. MSSQL 2005 Express Edition Toolkit.

The only limitation is the size of 4GB of course but I can handle it for my home development scenarios. I'm able to connect to remote instances with Management Studio as well. Previously I had MSSQL 2005 Enterprise Edition installed on my computer (Evaluation for 180 days). Evaluation period expired in april this year. I uninstalled it finally only yesterday due to my laziness. But MSSQL 2005 Express gives me all what I need so far.
