Using RSS for Interoperability
In most cases of integration between applications you don't need transactions at all. One system (consumer) just gets info from another system (publisher). I think that in this case RSS feed is very suitable. One could wonder how complex the data could be when published via RSS. It is a good question. One answer is - put CDATA in the description tag and contract its format between the consumer and the publisher. One of the benefits of RSS integration is low bandwith (this is against the common opinion that RSS takes bandwith - it does not) vs. Web. Something like 5 times less than regular web based application publishing data. This approach also fits with Clemens's Peace ideology. And of course in that case there is no need to put orange icon on the publisher app pages since it's the case of AAA (authentication, authorization and accounting) and not just public blog.
