Six Apart acquired Danga. What About Codebase Contributed by Community ?
It is clear now that Six Apart acquired Danga and has become the major player in the blogging market right now. But there is one interesting issue though in the whole story. Many parts of Danga's codebase were contributed by the community and it is not clear now what will happen to all this stuff. Brad explains it a bit but it is still unclear. There are also some other unclear points like advertising on the site and API porting. So, what the hell is my point here, I ask myself since I'm not a part of the livejournal community and I have not contributed a single line of code to Danga's codebase. I think that if you are mature enough to own a weblog, develop it, maintain and contribute (your own time) - you can not rely on some free/open service. You need your own domain name, hosting service, database and codebase to start with. If you care.
